India will finally get its first display fabrication facility. Rajesh Exports, with the support of Rajesh Exports, has entered into an agreement with the Telangana government to set up the country’s first display fab unit in the state. The company has an investment of Rs. 24,000 crore to build the facility. Thanks to this facility, India is emerging as one of the leading suppliers of displays and related technology.
Developing displays for phones and TVs using advanced technology
The nation’s first display fabrication facility manufactures Generation 6 displays for smartphones, tablets, TVs, laptops and more. Elest will partner with some of the most advanced and state-of-the-art research centers around the world to build the Display Fab Unit in the country. This facility also contributes to the ongoing shortage of semiconductor components worldwide.
Elist submitted applications for the Display Fabrication Plan to the Telangana government in February this year. The project was approved Sunday evening. It is one of the largest investments in technology manufacturing in the country.
Part of India’s first display fabrication unit semiconductor mission
In December 2021, the Union Cabinet will spend Rs. 76,000 for semiconductor and display manufacturing in the country. The facility is part of the India Semiconductor Mission to promote the growth of home-made displays and semiconductors. The Display Fab Unit makes Telangana one of the most attractive investment destinations for tech companies. The facility will also provide financial assistance that extends up to 50 percent of the project cost.
The Display Fab facility will also create more than 3,000 direct job opportunities for scientists and advanced technicians in the country. It will also create a larger ecosystem of partners and suppliers, said Rajesh Mehta, Chairman, Rajesh Exports. The company plans to set up a local research and development center for next-generation exhibitions in the country soon.
India is increasing the production of laptops and smartphones
The Indian smartphone and laptop market is getting a big boost from the first in-house display fab. Smartphone production in India has increased in the last two years due to the opening of factories. However, the laptop and tablet segment is still largely dependent on China, Taiwan and others. Local production of components such as the upcoming display hub will also help reduce the prices of smartphones, laptops, etc.
There are now 200 mobile manufacturing units in India as compared to just two mobile manufacturing units in 2014. In particular, companies like Apple and Samsung have also increased production in India, outsourcing to other markets as well. So we can definitely expect the Telangana Display Hub to further boost the production of smartphones, laptops, tablets and other devices in the country.
The first display fab in Telangana puts the country on the world map on par with selected regions like China, USA and Japan. Information that the government is planning to approve applications for a few more display fab units in the country.
