Slack’s new Canvas feature puts a document editor in your chat window

Becoming a Slack document editor. The Salesforce-owned company announced at its developer conference today that it’s rolling out a new feature called Canvas that will let users create and edit entire docs from within the Slack interface. It’s one of Slack’s biggest announcements in a while, and the biggest departure from its email-killer roots.

The idea behind bringing documents to Slack is to match everything productive and useful about Slack, but pull it out of the fast-moving chat window and into a more permanent and discoverable space. Canvas documents (which Slack calls canvases) can obviously contain text and images, but one big advantage they have is that they hold any important content to Slack…
