At Computex 2022, AMD has officially announced its next generation desktop CPU lineup – the Ryzen 7000 series with the new Gen4 architecture as well as the new AM5 platform. Compared to the previous generation CPU, the Ryzen 7000 offers 15 percent increase in single-core performance with better power efficiency.

All CPUs in the Ryzen 7000 Series are built using TSMC’s 5nm manufacturing process. These CPUs offer twice the amount of L2 cache, along with higher clock speeds compared to Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors. These were also some of the first CPUs from AMD to be able to maintain a constant clock speed of more than 5GHz while gaming.
Gen 4 cores now offer 1MB of cache per core L2 cache with 15 percent more single-core performance. A select number of Raizen 7000 series processors can handle clock speeds in excess of 5GHz using Max Boost technology. High-end models of Ryzen 7000 CPUs use RPNA2 graphics as well as chiplet technology.
AMD Raison 7000 series processors use the new AM5 platform. The new socket uses a 1718 pin LGA socket with local power support up to 170W. Similarly, it supports DDR5 RAM as well as PCIe Gen 5. Interestingly, the cooler from the AM4 motherboard can be used with the AM5 motherboard.

The motherboard with AM5 socket also supports 14 super speed USB with 20Gbps data bandwidth. The motherboard also supports up to 4 standalone display outputs. In terms of wireless connectivity, it supports up to Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 LE networks.
AM5 chipsets come in three levels – AMD X670E, AM5 X670 and AM5 B650. Brands like Gigabyte, Asus and MSI were some of the first brands to launch motherboards with the AM5 chipset. In addition, the company has partnered with PCIe memory brands for upcoming PCIe Gen5 SSDs. Compared to PCIe Gen4, PCIe Gen5 drives offer up to 60 percent faster read and write speeds.
AMD also showcased the upcoming 16-core Raison 7000 processor capabilities with a maximum clock speed of 5.5GHz. At the rendering benchmark, the 16-core AMD Raizen 7000 processor outperforms the Intel Core i9-12900K, indicating that the Ryzen 7000 has at least one CPU that can surpass Intel’s flagship model in both single-core and multi-core. Performance.
Price and availability
The AM5 motherboard and Ryzen 7000 series CPU will be available in the market from this fall. The new AMD Mendocino-based laptops will be available in Q4 2022. With the new Ryzen 7000 series, AMD will be able to compete with the 12th Gen Intel Core processors.
